The Affordable Care Act: What Happens After October 1, 2013?
As of October 1, you will be able to investigate your enrollment options for health insurance provided in an online insurance mall called a “Marketplace.” Depending on your current health insurance eligibility through your employer, your income, and your employment status, your costs may vary, and you may be eligible for subsidies to pay for this insurance.
- How will you know? As of October 1, 2013, but not before, you will be able to go to www.healthcare.gov and start your investigation by clicking on “Get Insurance.” Before that time, you can find out some background information there, including how the new law might apply to you, and what places in Michigan you can find more information and assistance. In order to start the application process, or to see what you might be eligible for, and what costs could be, you will need to gather the following information:
For Individual Applicants:
- Social Security Number (SSN) or Document Number if Legal Immigrant
- Employer and Income Info from W-2 or Pay Stub, Including Federal Employer Identification Numbers (FEIN)
- Information about Any Job-related Health Insurance
* A Completed Employer Coverage Tool
For Family Applicants
- Social Security Numbers (SSN) or Document Numbers if Legal Immigrants for Applicant, Spouse, and All Qualifying Dependents under 26
- Employer and Income Info from W-2 or Pay Stub, Including Federal Employer Identification Numbers (FEIN) for Each Family Member
- Policy Numbers for Any Current Health Insurance
- Information about Any Job-related Health Insurance Available to Any Family Member
* A Completed Employer Coverage Tool for Each Family Member
